FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ about the US number lookup

What is the US phone number lookup?
A tool to look up US phone numbers. Enter 10 digits to see, when available, the area code, state, city, line type, time zone and the carrier the number block was originally assigned to.
How does the lookup work?
You enter the 10-digit number, the system normalizes the format and searches the area code and the three-digit prefix (NXX) in our numbering database, then shows the data it finds.
What information does it provide?
  • Line type: mobile, landline or VoIP, if the block is identified.
  • Carrier: the carrier originally assigned the block; it can differ from the current one.
  • Area code: with a link to its full page.
  • Place: state and main city of the area code, not the exact location of the phone.
  • Time zone: and the local time there.
Does it tell me who is calling?
No. The lookup identifies the region and the carrier of the number block; it does not identify the person or company that owns the number, and scammers can fake any number.
Is the carrier shown the current one?
Not necessarily. Because of number portability, a number can be with another company today. We show the original assignment, not a confirmation of the current provider.
How do I dial a US number from abroad?
Dial your country exit code (or +), then 1, then the area code and the seven-digit number: +1 212 555 0123.
Is it free?
Yes. You can look up US numbers on this site without registering or paying for each search.
Can I look up numbers from other countries?
This lookup is built for US numbers (+1). For other countries, see the Mexico, Argentina, and Chile guides linked in the footer.
What happens if the number is not identified?
We show the data we do know, such as the area code, without inventing a carrier or a place.
